Wire Brushes vs. Abrasive Pads

Pick the least aggressive method that gets the job done.

Educational guide • Updated November 2026

Safety first: Wear suitable eye and hand protection, follow product labels, work with ventilation, and avoid damaging load-bearing or safety-critical parts. Consult a qualified professional when structural integrity is in doubt.

Wire brushes

Useful for some heavy deposits, but can scratch finishes and shed wires. Use suitable eye protection and tool guards.

Abrasive pads

Often offer more controlled surface preparation, but still remove material and can damage coatings.

Test first

Start on a small inconspicuous area, inspect the result, and follow equipment instructions.
